After two years of substantial growth, the overall average reference price of processed tomatoes has significantly decreased by about 11%, but this price level is still 16% higher than the average of the previous three years.
Based on information collected by the WPTC from national supply chains and data presented at the 2024 World Processed Tomato Congress in Budapest (June 9-12, 2024), the average field price per metric ton of tomatoes worldwide for the 2024 season is around $122, or just under €112 (June 2024 value). The price for Northern Italy is still under negotiation and has not yet been finalized.
The price of raw tomatoes is down $13 (10.6 percent) from last year's record level of $135, but is still 44 percent higher than the three-year average price of $85 / ton from 2020 to 2022.
This reference value represents the weighted price (excluding various bonuses and incentives) of the major processing producing regions, including California, Chile, China, Egypt, France, Greece, northern and southern Italy, Portugal and Spain, where approximately 33.9 million tonnes of tomatoes are scheduled for the production of concentrated tomato paste, accounting for 71% of the expected seasonal production.
Currently, the total value of the global harvest is expected to be about $5.8 billion.

For the second year in a row, the reference price negotiated between growers and processors has increased significantly, once again pushing the value of processed tomatoes to unprecedented heights.
According to information collected by the WPTC from national industry operators for the 2023 season, the global average field price per metric ton of tomatoes was about $136 as of June 2, 40 percent higher than last year's (already record) level and 60 percent higher than the overall average price for the previous three years (2020 to 2022).
This value represents the weighted price (excluding various bonuses and incentives) of the major processing producing areas of Argentina, California, Chile, China, Egypt, France, Greece, Hungary, northern Italy, Portugal, Spain and Turkey, where approximately 31 million tonnes of tomatoes are intended for the production of concentrated tomato paste. 73% of the expected seasonal production.
Currently, the total value of the global harvest is expected to be about $5.8 billion (6.2 billion euros).

The average price is just over $97 / ton, up 21% from 2021
In the June 3, 2022 harvest status review, clarifications on volumes and raw material prices helped refine the estimate of the overall average price of processed tomatoes for the 2022 crop.
These values are weighted "field edge" averages expressed in US dollars (April 2022 values) and are for country reference only and cannot cover all specific situations.
Globally, the price of tomatoes delivered to processors in 2022 will be approximately 21% higher than in 2021 and 25% higher than the average price for the 2019-2021 period. Based on available data, slightly more than 33 million tons, or about 83 percent of the scheduled volume, is an overall average of about $97 / ton, which is a historical high, about $17 / ton higher than the overall value for 2021, and nearly $20 higher than the average for the past three seasons.

The value of the global crop in 2022 is at least $3.7 billion (€3.4 billion), a 24 percent increase over the average estimate of the previous three seasons ($3 billion).
In 2022, the global average value of a ton of processed tomatoes is more than $97 / ton. The previous record was set in 2014 at around $84 per ton.
